Future of digital agriculture, 4-H leading the great agricultural transformation of Gyeongsangbuk-do

Gyeongsangbuk-do Agricultural Research & Extension Services hosted the 45th Gyeongsangbuk-do 4-H Camping Competition from July 5 to 7 (three days) at the Uljin National Sports Center with more than 500 4-H members in attendance.

The theme for this year’s Competition was The future of digital agriculture! Great agricultural transformation led by 4-H! It promoted the 4-H ideology of Knowledge, Virtue, Labor, and Body through a Beacon Ceremony, one of the Competition’s landmark events, and also a sporting event for young farmers from 22 cities and counties in Gyeongsangbuk-do. Together, the contestants not only competed against each other, but they worked with one another to find better ways to work and live in harmony.

The Beacon Ceremony started with the passing of a torch representing the noble spirit of 4-H from the leader, then went on to light up LED light bulbs arranged to say the 4-H philosophy of Knowledge, Virtue, Labor, and Body.

Sporting events included foot volleyball, bowling, and table tennis and gave people an opportunity to reflect on the importance of the 4-H philosophy of Body (healthy body) and to strengthen the camaraderie between 4-H members.

Moreover, with the Youth Farmers Hope Pledge, young farmers, who are the leaders of digital agriculture expected to inspire a great agricultural transformation of Gyeongsangbuk-do, strengthened their resolve to build a hopeful future for agriculture.

The Chairperson of the Gyeongsangbuk-do 4-H Federation said, The reason why Gyeongsangbuk-do’s 4-H has managed to stay active to this day, which is more than 70 years now, was because of the Camping Competition that reminded us of the 4-H philosophy through various events designed to build stronger collaborative relationships. He added, I hope we can pass on the fundamental philosophy and noble spirit of 4-H even as times change in the future.

The Vice Governor for Administrative Affairs at Gyeongsangbuk-do said, With agriculture growing into a high-tech industry, the role of young farmers with digital capabilities has become more important. The Vice Governor continued, Young farmers, 4-H members, will become leaders of our farming community who can inspire the great agricultural transformation across our Province very much in line with the changing times. Our mission is to support them and help them mature as leaders in agriculture.

Meanwhile, the Gyeongsangbuk-do 4-H Federation has 1,170 members from 22 cities and counties, and it hosts various activities aimed at developing agricultural and rural areas. It does everything from introducing new technology to volunteer work in local communities.
