Multicultural Family Support Centers available in Gyeongsangbuk-do

Multicultural Family Support Centers help multicultural families adapt faster to Korean society, and build a more stable family life using a comprehensive range of services, including localization education programs, counseling, and vocational education for multicultural families.

  • Available Centers: 23 Centers (1 regional center, 22 local centers in each si/gun district)
  • Core Services: Education, counseling, Korean language education, information provision, service referral, employment/startup support, etc. for multicultural families
  • Operating Method: Directly managed by local governments (6 Centers), consigned to other operators (18 centers)
  • Operating Type: Integrated operation with Healthy Family Support Centers (18 locations), independent Centers (3 locations)

On-site education for multicultural families

Gyeongsangbuk-do visits multicultural families having difficulties accessing their local Multicultural Family Support Center to provide Korean language education services, parenting classes, and other daily services for children.

  • Available Si/Gun Districts: 21 si/gun (cities/counties) (unavailable in Ulleung-gun)
  • Eligibility: Children and parents of multicultural families
    • Korean Language Education Service: Married immigrants (within 5 years of first entry into Korea), children migrating to Korea
    • Parenting Classes: 1 session per life-stage of the child (maximum 15 months of age, total 3 sessions)
    • Daily Services for Children: Children from multicultural families, children migrating to Korea (3 years of age ~ elementary school)

Management and support of multicultural families

Gyeongsangbuk-do helps multicultural families settle into life in Korea in a stable manner by providing customized services for each eligible family with considerations made for the Korean language proficiency, family relationship, presence of children, and economic conditions of marriage immigrants.

    • Customized services to help solve complex/various issues and needs of multicultural families
    • Discovery, initial consultation, needs assessment, reassessment, planning (action plan), execution, evaluation, adjustment, follow-up management

Translation service and support in liaison with marriage immigrants

Gyeongsangbuk-di provides language services to multicultural families by developing marriage immigrants as experts in interpretation and translation, and also offers opportunities for economic activities to marriage immigrants.

  • Available Si/Gun Districts: 20 si/gun (cities/counties) (unavailable in Goryeong and Ulleung-gun, 27 persons)
  • Core Programs: Services in 3 languages (Vietnam 18 persons, China 7 persons, Cambodia 2 persons)
  • Eligibility: Multicultural families, individuals or organizations directly/indirectly supporting multicultural families

  • Service Types: Interpretation, translation, information provision, etc.

Language skills development support for children from multicultural families

Gyeongsangbuk-do promotes the healthy growth of children by providing language education tailored to different developmental phases for children from multicultural families learning Korean later in life than Korean children.

  • Available Si/Gun Districts: 19 si/gu (cities/counties) (unavailable in Cheongsong, Uljin, Ulleung-gun, 22 persons)
  • Core Programs: Language skill evaluation for children from multicultural families, language education, parent counseling, etc.
  • Eligibility: Children from multicultural families in need of language skill evaluation and language education, etc.
    • Alien resident families with children up to 12 years of age may also apply for the program
  • User Instructions: Apply at the local Si/Gun Multicultural Family Support Center (Center will select eligible applicants)

Capacity building and support for marriage immigrants (Korean language education)

Gyeongsangbuk-do helps marriage immigrants and children entering the country learn Korean language and its culture to make their transition to daily life and social life in Korea faster, and to promote smoother communication.

  • Available Locations: 22 si/gun
  • Program Details: Special-purpose Korean language curriculum (for employment activities, for teaching children, for migrating adolescents, Korean language proficiency test preparation courses, etc.)
  • Eligibility: Marriage immigrants, children migrating to Korea, etc.

Multicultural family study rooms

Each Multicultural Family Support Center provides services such as liberal arts and social adaptation using small group education programs that blend group learning and on-site learning programs to promote the stable settlement of marriage immigrants (women).

  • Eligibility: Marriage immigrants, multicultural families
  • Program Details
    • Liberal arts education (cooking, daily etiquette, computer, etc.), occupational education (driving, beauty, baking), personal and family counseling, etc.
    • Each Center may operate a daycare center so that women with young children can receive their training with their children under safe supervision

Education support for marriage immigrants (women)

Gyeongsangbuk-do provides learning opportunities to marriage immigrants (women) looking to earn a degree, which can help their transition to life in Korea and strengthen their competitiveness in social activities.

  • Number of Supported Immigrants: 20 persons
  • Eligibility: Marriage immigrants (women)
  • Support Criteria: Up to KRW 1 million per person (within KRW 500,000 for the Korea National Open University)
  • Supported Expenses: University admission fee and tuition, tuition fee for general equivalence diploma academies
  • Application Instructions: Apply at the Multicultural Affairs Department at the local si/gun office (support offered within the available budget)
